Maciej Szatkowski graduated from the Adam Mickiewicz University (M.A. in Sinology), head of Center for Chinese Language and Culture at Nicolaus Copernicus University. In 2016, he received PhD in the Humanities with the dissertation on Meng Jinghui’s works at Warsaw University. Lecturer and translator of Chinese.
Maciej Szatkowski has been awarded four grants for young researchers. Working in collaboration with several academic institutions in China and Taiwan, he travels to the region every year to conduct his research. Five-time organiser of the yearly conferences ‘The Orient in Literature, Literature in the Orient’ taking place in Toruń, he publishes research studies on contemporary China, Chinese theatre and sociology of Chinese culture. He has co-edited several Polish- and English-language books on Oriental literatures and their reception in the West, including:

In addition, he translates literary texts into Polish, especially by contemporary playwrights and is currently working on Polish translation of plays by Liao Yimei. Member of Polish Orient Society and Polish Society of Theater Studies. Major research fields: postmodern drama, contemporary Chinese literature and culture, modern Chinese history.

Sinolog, dyplomata, doktor nauk humanistycznych, profesor Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu. W latach 2007-2009 założyciel i dyrektor Instytut Konfucjusza w Poznaniu. W latach 2010-2019 w służbie dyplomatycznej w Azji – założyciel i pierwszy dyrektor Instytutu Polskiego w Pekinie, dyrektor generalny Biura Polskiego w Tajpej. Specjalizacja: współczesne stosunki międzynarodowe w regionie Azji Wschodniej, rola i miejsce Tajwanu na arenie międzynarodowej, polityka językowa i narodowościowa regionu Azji Wschodniej, etnolingwistyka chińskojęzycznego obszaru kulturowego.
Sinologist, diplomat, PhD, professor of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. In the years 2007–2009, founder and first director of the Confucius Institute in Poznań. In the years 2010-2019 in the diplomatic service in Asia – head of the public and cultural diplomacy division of the Embassy of Poland, the founder and the first director of the Polish Institute in Beijing, Director General of the Polish Office in Taipei. Specialization: contemporary international relations in the East Asian region, the role and place of Taiwan in the international arena, language and nationality policy of the East Asian region, ethno-linguistics of the Chinese-language cultural area.

Hanna Kupś jest adiunktem na Uniwersytecie Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu. W 2019 roku obroniła doktorat w zakresie językoznawstwa chińskiego, a temat jej dysertacji dotyczył terminologii muzykologicznej w odniesieniu do muzyki chińskiej sprzed zjednoczenia Chin pod władzą dynastii Qin (“Muzyka to radość, radość to muzyka: terminologia muzykologiczna w odniesieniu do wczesnostarożytnej muzyki chińskiej i jej kontekst historyczno-kulturowy”). Dorobek naukowy Hanny Kupś obejmuje publikacje związane z tradycyjną muzyką chińską oraz językami i kulturą Chin i Tajwanu, a wyniki swoich rozważań prezentowała także na licznych konferencjach ogólnopolskich i międzynarodowych, w tym Conference of Interdisciplinary Musicology, która odbyła się w 2018 roku na Uniwersytecie im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu. Poza tym w ramach działalności popularyzatorskiej badaczka wygłosiła kilka wykładów na temat tradycyjnej muzyki chińskiej.

Aleksandra Brzostek-Przybyszewska jest doktorantką na Uniwersytecie Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu. Przygotowywana przez nią rozprawa doktorska dotyczy chińskich narracji wernakularnych. Na lata 2014-2016 Aleksandra Brzostek-Przybyszewska otrzymała stypendium UMK i studiowała Beijing Institute of Technology w Pekinie. W latach 2016-2018 studiowała język chiński na Beijing Institute of Technology, gdzie obroniła pracę magisterską z zakresu językoznawstwa. Pracowała jako asystentka kierownika w Instytucie Polskim w Pekinie (Wydział Kultury Ambasady RP w Pekinie) oraz obroniła pracę magisterską na Uniwersytecie Mikołaja Kopernika w Toruniu z zakresu kulturoznawstwa.
Dorobek naukowy Aleksandry Brzostek-Przybyszewskiej obejmuje publikacje związane głównie z folklorem tradycyjnym i współczesnym Chin, w tym narracjami wernakularnymi, a wyniki swoich rozważań prezentowała na licznych konferencjach ogólnopolskich i międzynarodowych, w tym „SIEF2019: Track Changes: Reflecting on a Transforming World”, która odbyła się w 2019 roku na Uniwersytecie w Santiago de Compostela. Badaczka brała także udział w szkołach letnich, na których prezentowała wyniki swoich badań terenowych związanych z jej pracą doktorską. Uczestniczyła m.in. w „SIEF International Summer School” organizowanej przez SIEF (International Society for Ethnology and Folklore) oraz Uniwersytet Aberdeen w Szkocji w 2018 r., a także w „The 10th International Folklore Fellows’ Summer School: The Violence of Traditions and the Traditions of Violence” organizowanej przez Folklore Fellows oraz Uniwersytet Wschodniej Finlandii w Helsinkach w 2021 r.
Aleksandra Brzostek-Przybyszewska is a PhD student at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. Her doctoral dissertation concerns Chinese vernacular narratives that were collected during her four-year stay in China. For the years 2014-2016, Aleksandra Brzostek-Przybyszewska received a NCU scholarship for a language course at the Beijing Institute of Technology, where she received the “Distinguished Student” award. For the following years, i.e. 2016-2018, she received a Confucius Institute scholarship for a master’s degree in “Chinese language” at the Beijing Institute of Technology, where she defended her master’s thesis in linguistics. In the meantime, she worked as the Assistant to the Head of the Department at the Polish Institute in Beijing (Cultural Service of the Polish Embassy in Beijing) and defended her master’s thesis at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń in the field of cultural studies.
The scientific achievements of Aleksandra Brzostek-Przybyszewska include publications related mainly to traditional and contemporary Chinese folklore, including vernacular narratives. She presented the results of her deliberations at numerous national and international conferences, including “SIEF2019: Track Changes: Reflecting on a Transforming World”, which took place in 2019 at the University of Santiago de Compostela. The researcher also participated in summer schools, where she presented the results of her field research related to her doctoral dissertation. Participated, among others in “SIEF International Summer School” organized by SIEF (International Society for Ethnology and Folklore) and the University of Aberdeen in Scotland in 2018 and in “The 10th International Folklore Fellows’ Summer School: The Violence of Traditions and the Traditions of Violence” organized by Folklore Fellows and the University of Eastern Finland in Helsinki in 2021.
