On April 4, the Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus University presented awards to the representatives of priority research teams that were selected in the competition organised under the "Strategy of Excellence - Research University" project.

The identification of research teams that are most dynamic in terms of research and international cooperation is the way to specify priority research areas and strategic international partners. For this very purpose, on 11 January 2019, the competition "Priority research teams of the Nicolaus Copernicus University" was announced. Its target has been the academic staff of the NCU, who in the last 5 years demonstrated significant scholarly activity and were dynamically acquiring funds for academic research and staff development as well as focused intensely on increasing international publicity and recognition of the NCU.

Fifty-one research teams representing almost all disciplines and faculties took part in the competition. Sixteen awarded teams represent thirteen different disciplines: archeology, astronomy, biology, chemistry, pharmacy, physics, geography, history, computer science, linguistics, mathematics, medicine, fine arts and art conservation. Nine of these teams are interdisciplinary teams. In total, all the awarded teams include over one hundred and sixty academics, sixty four PhD students and twenty seven students.

Eight teams received awards and eight teams were given honourable mentions in the competition. Among those honoured is the Center for Language Evolution Studies, whose Head is dr hab. Przemysław Żywiczyński, NCU professor.

Congratulations!
