Cultural Trauma of World War I in contemporary British, French and Canadian literature – grant No UMO-2013/11/B/HS2/02871 of the National Science Centre (Opus 6)
Head: dr hab. Anna Branach-Kallas, NCU Professor
The aim of the project is to collect source materials and to perform a comparative analysis of the vision of World War I in the literature of Great Britain, France and Canada over the last forty years. Since the 1970s. we have been able to observe a return of WWI-related issues in the literature of these countries. Our research hypothesis is based on the assumption that the Great War is still a source of cultural trauma in the collective imagination of the British, French and Canadians. Writers, in their artistic visions, are trying to find a variety of ways of working through the trauma as well as to commemorate and redeem the suffering caused by the global conflict of 1914-1918 .
